Why I've Been Quiet Lately (And Why I'll Disappear Again in February)

You may have noticed that I have been less active on the forum lately. Here’s why: my left hip has decided to retire, and I’ll be replacing it on February 13.

For context, I had my right hip replaced about three years ago due to an injury. This one? Pure genetics, courtesy of my grandfather.

The funny part: when I went in to have my damaged right hip replaced three years ago, the surgeon turned to me and asked, “Are we doing your left hip?” I said, “Um, no.” Awkward silence. Then he looked at me and said, “I’ll be seeing you again in about three years.” He was right, almost to the day.

To manage the pain while waiting for some longer-term medications to kick in, I’ve been on enough drugs to sedate a small elephant. This meant I had to carefully schedule “lucid times” for anything village-related, like council meetings, reviewing documents, and responding to forum messages. Basically, any time I needed to count to ten without using my fingers.

The good news: I’m off the hard stuff now and fully functional again. The less good news: I’m good to go until February 13, when I’ll be enjoying a three-week medically-induced stupor before getting back at it.

In the meantime, stay tuned for some really cool stuff coming soon!
