How to Use This Site

This place is meant to be simple, but like any good tool, it has a few tricks that make life easier once you know them.

The Basics

  • Read: Browse topics by category or latest activity.
  • Reply: Jump in when you have something to add.
  • Start a topic: Got something new? Hit + New Topic and share it.

Reactions

  • Like : Show appreciation with a single click.
  • Reply :right_arrow_curving_left:: Add your thoughts.
  • Quote :speech_balloon:: Highlight text and hit Quote to reply to just that bit.

Bookmarks :bookmark:

Use these when you want to save a post for later. Nobody else sees your bookmarks. You can even set reminders, so Discourse pings you when you want to come back.

Flags :triangular_flag:

See something off? Use Flag. It quietly alerts moderators. Choices include Off-topic, Inappropriate, Spam, or Something Else (where you can add a note). Flags are private. Nobody knows who flagged what.

Notifications :bell:

At the bottom of every topic, you’ll see settings like:

  • Watching: You’ll be notified of every new reply.
  • Tracking: You’ll be notified if someone mentions you or replies to you.
  • Normal: You’ll only be notified if someone directly talks to you.
  • Muted: You won’t get notifications for this topic at all.

Help Us Build This

If you have a “how do I…?” question, ask it in the Help category. We might turn it into another post here so the next person has the answer ready to go.

That’s it. Keep it friendly, use the tools, and do not be afraid to explore. The site is built like a tank, you will not break it.

Hi John, thanks for starting this forum! I think it’s a great idea. On participation and rules - are residents not allowed to post replies/comments in all areas? I was trying to comment on the debate around sidewalks and crossing guards, mainly about the overall animosity towards the elementary school here. However, I noticed that I cannot post anything there?

The system needs to confirm you as a resident, which it has done. You should be all good now.

Welcome!
